With Cuban’s guidance, the team went from a perennial playoff loser to making the finals two times in five years. The Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat in the 2011 NBA Finals. Cuban is outspoken, but he is also a much loved philanthropist. Every time his is fined by the NBA for inappropriate comments, he donates an matching sum to one of his favorite charities. The Los Angeles Lakers were lucky to have an amazing man as their owner for over 30 years. Jerry Buss bought the Lakers in 1979 along with the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the venue named The Great Western Forum. Buss later sold The Forum when the Lakers moved to the new Staples Center in 1999. Buss was a visionary owner who made sure that his team was competitive each year by hiring some of the best players and coaches in the storied history of the NBA. The Lakers won ten World Championships during his tenure as owner, and they are a perennial threat to make a run for the title. Buss, who was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, passed away in February 2013, and ownership was passed down to his six children.
No player in the history of the game has accomplished the individual accolades of Michael Jordan. By the time he played in his first NBA game he was already a star.
